Job Description:

Trussway is in the process of implementing TPS tools & systems into the manufacturing and supporting processes. The Operational Excellence Manager will be responsible for utilizing Lean Six Sigma expertise to lead the design & implementation of system improvements throughout the organization.

  • Manage the implementation of Trussway production system across the network – interfacing with executives and plant teams.
  • Train personnel in TPS elements and systems.
  • Support and train employees to create project charters; support teams to achieve objectives and KPIs.
  • Lead and/or train personnel to run Kaizen events on the shop floor and office. Implement Standardized Work Combination Tables, SMED, Kanban/pull, work content/ station design & line balance, performance management, Quality system, Safety, Information flow, TPM, man/machine separation.
  • Conduct facility audits – safety / quality / production system.
  • Develop organizational capability to support business growth by identifying and developing “A” players through the effective use of performance management and “top-grading” best practices.
  • Support development of an operating culture across the firm which is disciplined, accountable, and collaborative to achieve profitability and performance objectives.
  • Support achievement of annual business objectives through rigorous analysis, planning and project execution.
  • Lead efforts to implement sustainable, best practice business processes across the enterprise.
Job Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing with prior experience leading a program office with responsibility for simultaneous projects at multiple locations.
  • Ideally has a broad background in quality management, production, engineering and/or supply chain with safety management experience is a plus.
  • Building products/construction experience preferred
  • Candidates must possess:
    • A deep working knowledge of Toyota Production System with a demonstrated history of accomplishment in operational leadership and project execution in brown field operations with ability to scope, plan and administer projects.
    • A solid understanding of DMAIC method as part of a Lean Six Sigma deployment (e.g. Plant Assessments, Charters, DMAIC methods, Tollgate Reviews, Lean Steering Team, multi-site project management with a financial roll-up and resource management).
  • Candidates must be mature, thoughtful, articulate and comfortable with working one-on-one with both
    C-level (CEO, CFO, COO) and plant floor employees.
  • Candidates must demonstrate:
    • Strong business acumen; must be able to analyze trends and develop budgets.
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, writing and presentation skills.
    • Strategic thinking skills.
    • Ability to train others on Lean Six Sigma / Kaizen / Toyota Production System principles.
  • Candidates must have been responsible for developing and operating within a budget, and have a track record of improving business performance.
  • Candidates must be highly motivated, internally driven, able to work efficiently and willing to travel.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

  • Studies production schedules and estimates labor hour requirements for completion of job assignments; oversees loading and line balancing; ensures operational compliance with established production and shipping schedules; maximizes workforce utilization.
  • Reviews and approves recommended measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Formulates, recommends and interprets policies and procedures, specifications, and manufacturing procedures; takes appropriate corrective actions whenever deviations occur.
  • Identifies, develops, and participates in continuous improvement projects and programs to achieve work simplification, to eliminate non-value added activities, and cost reduction.
  • Follows and observes all regulatory agency requirements (ISO 9001, etc.) applicable to manufacturing and ensures these are also followed and observed by the group.
  • Ensures compliance with established Quality Assurance procedures in the manufacturing process.
  • Implements productivity and quality metrics and incentive programs to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Plans and directs the layout of equipment, workflow and assembly methods.
  • Ensures safe work environment and compliance with OSHA standards and other regulations.
  • Maintains operational knowledge of quality systems, product specifications, vital manufacturing processes, and machinery and equipment; stays abreast of latest developments in operations.
